Current Opportunities
Time commitment
We understand that volunteers have many interests and demands on their times. You may work shifts, have caring responsibilities, have a changing university timetable or have regular commitments. We try to offer a flexible approach to volunteering.
For some roles like advising, we will ask for at least two sessions each week, for at least 12 months, particularly during your initial learning to help you progress and complete your training. Other roles may involve less time each week.
We recognise that a regular commitment may not always be possible every week and is dependent on what volunteer role you take on. We’re happy to discuss being flexible if you have less time but think you can still support our services.
What our volunteers have to say
“It is a wonderful experience being able to help people on an individual basis every time I answer the phone. The queries and problems keep my brain active and if I am stuck for a solution the support I receive is excellent.”
“Volunteering keeps my brain active, keeps me learning, makes me feel valued”
“I enjoy the face to face interaction in the busy foodbank environment”
“I’m giving something back to the community & doing good. I really enjoy pulling together detailed arguments for appeals & I like to win, I enjoy being able to volunteer flexibly – to fit other activities in”
“I’m making a contribution, keeping brain & skills sharp, working from home with some socialising”
“I’m using and expanding the knowledge and skills I’ve acquired over the years to advise clients, meeting some colleagues face to face, having contact with a range of people whom I would not normally meet and making a contribution to my local community.”
“I wanted to use the knowledge and skills I had when I worked in law centres. As a volunteer I can focus on trying to help the client- I like to feeI useful as well as skilled. I also wanted to have some structure to my week after retirement.”
